Academies and Tech - Prep
Academy Information
Programs are available both shared time and full time.
Shared time programs meet approximately 2 ½ hours
per day during a morning or an afternoon session. High
school students spend the remainder of their day fulfilling
academic course requirements at their home high school.
Full time Academy programs are available for students
in grades 9 through 12. All subjects necessary for graduation
are provided by OCVTS. Tech Prep college credits are
available for both shared time and full time students.
What is a Full Time Career
Academy?
Career Academies allow students the opportunity to develop
a career plan and identify an educational pathway. They
offer a small group learning environment and focus on
a specific career major. Academics are integrated into
the program, and internships with business and industry
allow students to develop real work experiences. Agreements
with colleges offer some college credits for course
work completed in academy programs. Students with an
interest in technology and a problem-solving approach
to learning should apply. A strong background in math,
science, and language arts is recommended. Students
may be required to take placement tests and undergo
an interview prior to admission.

Tech - Prep
Information
Tech Prep is short for "Technical Preparation." It is a nationally recognized program which focuses on providing a meaningful education and career preparation for a large number of high school students whose immediate educational goals following high school include an associate degree at a community college or post secondary institution. The Ocean County Vocational Technical School has embraced the Tech Prep philosophy, expanding it to include both full and part-time programs. Agreements are in place with more than ten institutions allowing students the opportunity to earn college credits. This gives students a jumpstart on a college education and prevents the duplication of course work at the college level. The following programs offer Tech Prep opportunities:
