BRICK, NEW JERSEY- Beyond the lessons of basic food preparations in their kitchen-classroom OCVTS Adult Culinary Arts students gain real-world experience through events sponsored by community partnerships. Ocean County Library in Toms River hosted an evening with Foodnetwork Chef Daisy Martinez and invited the OCVTS Culinary students to prepare several recipes from Daisy’s newest cookbook “Daisy: Morning, Noon, and Night.” Ms. Martinez is known for her popular PBS series, Daisy Cooks! and her Foodnetwork show Viva Daisy!
The students prepared the recipes during their school day and then served the selections, Argentinean Rice Salad and Chicken Lime Soup, to approximately 150 guests in attendance at Mancini Hall. Chef Daisy spoke about her Puerto Rican heritage, her passion for Latino cuisine and the integral part it plays in her family life. She also spoke about her career and answered questions from the audience about life as a Foodnetwork celebrity chef. At times, she directed words of advice toward the culinary students.
After her presentation, guests were able to sample food, purchase her newest cookbook and take photos with the star.
