WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ Students from the Adult Culinary Arts Program at Ocean County Vocational Technical School (OCVTS) had the opportunity to work alongside celebrity chef Eric Villegas at the ‘Taste of Home Cooking Show’ held recently at Branches Catering in West Long Branch, NJ. The show was part of a nationwide tour, sponsored by Reader’s Digest’s Taste of Home cooking magazine, which boasts the largest circulation of any cooking magazine in the world. The event was presented by Town Square Media, who reached out to OCVTS for culinary student volunteers.
Chef Villegas commented, “I like to work with local volunteers during the cooking shows and I truly prefer to have students from local culinary programs. I loved these students! First and foremost these students presented themselves very well, they were skilled, knew to ask the
right questions, were very efficient and we were able to have a good time while preparing for the show. This was a wonderful opportunity for students preparing to enter into the culinary field.

They see a completely different side of the business.”
The students arrived at the venue hours before the event and each student was assigned a recipe which would be presented during the evening show.
The student was responsible for prepping all aspects of the recipe and having everything ready for the stage presentation. Each student then joined Chef Villegas onstage while he was preparing their particular dish. |
