EAST
BRUNSWICK - JoAnn Juralewicz, a graduate
of the Ocean County Vocational Technical School (OCVTS)
and owner of Simply Skin, a Toms River day spa and
salon, has been honored as a “Successful Graduate”
by the New Jersey Council of County Vocational Technical
Schools. The award was presented at the group’s
third annual awards dinner at The Chateau, here.
Ms. Juralewicz graduated from the OCVTS cosmetology
program in 1991 after gaining state certification
in hair and skin care. In 1992, along with a former
partner, she opened the Simply Skin salon on Water
St. in downtown Toms River. Within a few years, the
popular salon outgrew its 2000-square-foot space in
a five-shop mall. The business owner eventually purchased
the mall and created separate sections in the complex
for facials, massages, nail care and a hair services.
A new hair salon has recently been added. The East
Coast Vegan, a separately owed café, is also
part of the complex. From an organization of 13 people
in 1999, the spa now employs 34 professional technicians.
“People come to relax, to escape what else
is out there,” Juralewicz said.
“It helps the mind, body and spirit,”
she added...
Over the years, the spa owner has kept in touch with
OCVTS Cosmetology Patricia Wake, of Toms River, who
was her teacher during two years of evening classes.
“I call Pat if I need staff people or classes
for my staff. She’s my sounding board,”
Juralelwicz said.
Ms. Wake joined Ms. Juralelwicz at the dinner and
ceremony where the business woman was recognized.
OCVTS Superintendent William P. Hoey Jr. and Assistant
Thomas Resch also represented the school district.
“Joann truly deserves this award,” said
Hoey.
“She has been a consistent supporter of our
school and its programs. She has spoken to our students
about career opportunities and provided a sincere
testimonial to OCVTS in a recent recruitment video,”
he added.
Each year, the New Jersey Council of County Vocational
Technical Schools recognizes an outstanding graduate
from each New Jersey County. Graduates were selected
from diverse fields including automotive technology,
dentistry, law performing arts and cosmetology.
Assemblyman Joseph Malone II of the 30th Legislative
District gave the keynote address at the dinner which
was attended by over 160 people including graduates
and their families, members of the New Jersey Board
of Education and county vocational and technical school
superintendents, board members and administrators.
