Programs Guide

The educational programs described in this section are designed by the Ocean County Vocational Technical Schools to prepare you for entrance into the career of your choice. Selection of a program to meet your needs, interests and abilities is of utmost importance for your success at the vocational schools. Carefully study the course offerings while keeping in mind that the district's mission is to prepare students for job placement or further education leading to successful employment.

The Ocean County Vocational Technical Schools strive to help individuals in their efforts to become responsible citizens by offering a learning environment that provides knowledge, skills and values. We stress the development of sound character, good citizenship, the ability to think critically, and the desire to achieve a high level of craftsmanship, as well as equipping you with the skills of your trade.

 


Career Academies

A career academy is an integrated approach to learning which lets students develop a career plan and educational pathway which focuses on a specific career major. Students receive a rigorous four-year college preparatory academic program which fulfills all requirements for high school graduation and admission to competitive colleges and universities. The curriculum is driven by New Jersey Core Content Curriculum Standards It provides learning opportunities at affiliated colleges as well as opportunities for externships and mentorships with local companies, business and industry. Students are selected from applications through a competitive process and enter at the ninth grade level. Applicants must reside in Ocean County to be eligible for admission. All school districts in Ocean County are eligible to participate in sending applications to the programs.

Career Related Program Clusters

A Career Related Program Cluster is an integrated approach to learning which lets students develop a career plan and educational pathway which focuses on a specific career major. Applicants must reside in Ocean County to be eligible for admission. All school districts in Ocean County are eligible to participate in sending applications to the programs.

Adult Education / Evening Programs

Adult Education programs offer post secondary students several flexible options for those interested in career advancement, certification or a new career direction. Daytime, twilight or evening hours may be available. This can be an economical alternative to college and a shorter route to full-time employment.

Special Services / Special Needs Students

The Ocean County Vocational Technical School provides excellence in training to special needs children in Ocean County. We provide hands-on learning through skills training, job shadowing/internships, Cooperative Industrial Education and vocational exploration.

The Ocean County Vocational Technical School is composed of five centers located throughout Ocean County. Classified students may apply for vocational-technical training in the special needs program once they have entered eighth grade. All applications are made through the home school's child study team or guidance department. Special needs students are eligible to participate in the employment orientation during grades 9-12.
