Child Care Professions (Tech Prep)

This Tech Prep program teaches skills in caring for young children, infant through pre-school age, in preparation for positions as teacher assistants in child care centers. Students perform health, safety, food service and housekeeping activities; plan and guide a developmentally appropriate curriculum; supervise daily routines of young children; and create instructional games and visual aids. Experience supervising and guiding pre-schoolers, ages 3-
5, in a nursery school environment emphasizes teaching techniques and positive behavior guidelines. Program graduates are eligible for the Child Development Associate (CDA), a nationally recognized credential equivalent to group teacher certification. Graduates may continue their education in the early childhood field through college courses leading to New Jersey teacher certification. A Tech Prep agreement with Ocean County College and Brookdale Community College enables qualified students to receive three college credits.
