Agricultural and Environmental Sciences | Tech-Prep | 2 years / 900 hours
This program will prepare students to enter the growing and profitable fields ofagribusiness and environmental concerns. It combines knowledge of the ecologyof living systems with the study of environmentally safe practices in the areas ofgreen technology, land-use management, green residential landscape design,integrated pest management, outdoor recreation, and natural resource manage-ment. Students will have access to cutting edge technology, field work, andresearch practices through a partnership with the New Jersey Department ofAgriculture, Rutgers University School of Environmental and Biological Sciences,New Jersey Forest Resource Education Center and Ocean County SoilConservation District. Students will utilize the OCVTS classroom, greenhouse,and land laboratory for their practical applications. Students will benefit from part-nerships with local agribusinesses, participate in site internships and externships,and attend professional seminars, conferences, and industry trade shows.Extensive use of computer technology will be emphasized. Through participationin this three component quality agriculture/environmental science program, stu-dents will gain the academic knowledge in the classroom, use technical and criti-cal thinking skills to develop premier leadership, personal growth and career suc-cess through involvement in FAA(national agricultureeducation student organization) activities which willprepare them for work in the 21st century.Recommended Skills: Strong interest in science andmastery of basic math skills.

This one-year program will emphasize marine ecosystems, oceanography, basicecology, management and government regulations. This course is an interdiscipli-nary course integrating scientific principles of chemistry, biology, and earth scienceto understand interrelationships of the natural world. It emphasizes topics includ-ing: Pine Barrens ecology, estuarine ecology, forestry, wildlife management, pop-ulation dynamics, toxicology, and energy. This is a project-based, hands-on coursewhich will require students to research current information that relates to the envi-ronment and society. Oral reports and group presentations will be required.Students will participate in various field and vessel trips throughout Ocean County.Students can qualify for internships at laboratories, field work, environmentalagencies, pollution control or industry.Pre-requisites: Students must have completed Biology and Algebra I for admis-sions. Students should also have completed or concurrently be enrolled inChemistry and Algebra II during this course.

Marine Trades
Marine Trades | 2 years / 900 hours
This program utilizes modern engine technology and test equipment to helpenhance skills in the theory, maintenance, and troubleshooting of outboard andinboard marine engines. Students will develop a working knowledge of boat designand construction, boat and trailer rigging, fiberglass repair, and marine systems.Curriculum also includes shop safety, marina operations and employability skills,boating safety, handling, seamanship, and basic navigation. The program hasaccess to waterfront facilities where students will operate and maintainvessels.Recommended Skills: Mastery of basic math skills, good communcationskills, and attention to detail are strongly recommended.
