Information for Students

Welcome to Computer Science with Mr. Clarke at Ocean County Vocational Technical School, Toms River Center, NJ, for the 2007-2008 school year.

Computer Science is a two-year course; students may take one or both years. Each year is self-contained, one year does not precede the other. Last year we studied the internet and web site design.

This is PC year. We'll learn the history of computers, the difference between system and applications software, some different applications like Microsoft Word and Excel. We'll learn how to program PC applications in three different languages: Visual Basic, C++, and Java. We'll study how to design good programs by learning how to solve programming problems. We'll look at Mirosoft Access and see how SQL works, then we'll see how to use programming languages to write application programs to read and write databases.

From this home page you can look at an overview of what we'll learn this year or read more about your instructor, Mr. Clarke. You may jump directly to marking period 1 page. You can see a calendar of the school year or look at a list of reference links. You may also look at career links or other interesting links.

You may also review what was covered during previous years. A list of links to other websites designed and maintained by Mr. Clarke is located at his Bayshore website.

The quick-jump-menu you see on the left will show on every page to make it easier for you to find your way around this site.

Come in, browse around, and learn as much as you can.
