Message 1

MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
TO ALL STUDENTS

Year after year students profess ignorance of some of the basic rules enforced at OCVTS. To help you stay out of trouble and to keep me from hearing “I didn’t know I couldn’t…", I am asking all teachers to read this message everyday for the first week of school. The complete discipline policy is in the student handbook and it is your responsibility to read this handbook, but some of the common problem areas are listed below.
  1. There is no smoking by students anywhere in or around the school. This includes the parking lot and the area across the street from the school. Students may not leave school property after the busses have dropped them off.
  2. Cell phones and beepers are not permitted in public schools — on or off. Emergency phone calls must be made form the main office and you will be asked who you are calling and why.
  3. Students who qualify and have permission to drive must have a valid parking OCVTS sticker. Students with valid stickers must park in the appropriate, assigned parking lots. Students must not park in the front lot.
  4. All share-time secondary students are not allowed to drive unless specifically granted permission by vocational administration.
  5. Students with valid parking stickers may not drive other students to or from OCVTS.
  6. Students arriving after the late bell must check in at the main office or they will be marked absent. Remember - more than 10 unexcused absences will prevent you from receiving a certificate (high school pupils). More than 18 absences of any kind could result in your removal from your OCVTS program and prevent you from receiving a certificate of program completion.
  7. Students are expected to treat all staff members with respect and consideration. This means appropriate language and behavior at all times.
  8. All of your sleeping is to be done at home. If your head is down on your desk and your eyes are closed, as far as we are concerned you’re sleeping and will be dealt with accordingly. Remember that drowsiness is a sign of drug use and schools are required to test students suspected of being under the influence.

So heads up and let’s be ready to have a good year.
