Welcome to Computer Science with Mr. Clarke at Ocean County Vocational Technical School, Toms River Center, NJ, for the 2011 - 2012 school year. Computer Science is a two-year course; students may take one or both years. Each year is self-contained, one year nether precedes nor follows the other. Last year we studied website design and programming using HTML & CSS & JavaScript & PHP. This is PC year. We'll learn the history of computers, the difference between system and applications software, some different applications like Microsoft Word and Excel. We'll learn how to program PC applications in two different languages: Visual Basic and Java. We'll study how to design good programs by learning how to solve programming problems. We'll look at databases and see how SQL works, then we'll see how to use programming languages to write application programs to read and write databases.
