Microsoft is giving away programming software: www.dreamspark.com - all you need is to enroll. Welcome to Computer Science with Mr. Clarke at Ocean County Vocational Technical School, Toms River Center, NJ, for the 2011 - 2012 school year. Opportunity for Extra Credit: Send an e-mail to mclarke@mail.ocvts.org before September 6th (09/06/11), the first day of school. Ask for extra credit and let me know how much you look forward to learning all about the programming languages VB and Java this school year. Computer Science is a two-year course; students may take one or both years. Each year is self-contained, one year nether precedes nor follows the other. Last year we studied website design and programming using HTML & CSS & JavaScript & PHP. This is PC year. We'll learn the history of computers, the difference between system and applications software, some different applications like Microsoft Word and Excel. We'll learn how to program PC applications in two different languages: Visual Basic and Java. We'll study how to design good programs by learning how to solve programming problems. We'll look at databases and see how SQL works, then we'll see how to use programming languages to write application programs to read and write databases. Because this site is always under construction, some of the links may not work. From this home page you can look at an overview of what we'll learn this year or read more about Mr. Clarke. You can see a calendar of the school year or look at a list of reference links. You may also look at career links or other interesting links. We'll also have a page of examples of assignments Be sure to visit the CompSci Blog and the CompSci Wiki where students may read what other students are thinking and doing and may post their own thoughts and deeds. You may also review what was covered during past years. A list of links to other websites designed and maintained by Mr. Clarke is located at his mrclarke.net website. The quick-jump-menu you see on the left will show on every page to make it easier for you to find your way around this site. Come in, browse around, and learn as much as you can. |
