ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY

Engineering Technology is an authentic makerspace equipped with machinery used in industry, designed to meet the current and emerging workforce needs in the advanced manufacturing industry. Students in the program will explore the production of metal and plastic products through manual and automated processes. Completers of this program will acquire a diverse and well-rounded set of academic and technical skills that will prepare them to enter the workforce and/or college. Students interested in pursuing a degree in engineering will have the opportunity to gain an understanding of the capabilities and limitations of production machinery. This knowledge is valuable to aspiring engineers as they will possess a well-rounded understanding of the production process, allowing them to problem-solve and troubleshoot design challenges before they hit the production floor. We do this using project-based learning that will take the students through the prototyping and development process all the way through the production process. Areas of study include: Computer Numerical Control (CNC) theory/operations, interpreting engineering drawings, quality control, production planning, digital read-out skills, metal fabrication, GTAW (TIG) welding, GMAW (MIG) welding, precision measurement and analysis, manual machining operations, workplace safety (OSHA-10), Robotics, and 3D printing. Students can earn HAAS certification for basic mill operator. Recommended Skills: Basic computer skills, strong math and language skills.
