DESIGN & VISUAL COMMUNICATIONS

The Design and Visual Communications (DVC) Career Cluster provides students interested in Photography, Multimedia and Printing a hands-on environment to create designs for advertising, marketing and entertainment. It emphasizes prep¬aration for both immediate employment upon course completion, as well as continuing education on the collegiate level. The DVC Program offers “Jump Start’ classes at Ocean County College (OCC) and an Adobe Certified Associates certificate in PhotoShop, InDesign, Illustrator and Premier. The DVC Program consists of eleven different courses. These courses consist of both conventional and digital skill competencies to assure graduates are competitive in a wide variety of design and visual communication careers, including Professional Photographer, Animator, Game Designer, Illustrator, Screen-Printer, Web Designer, or Videographer.

Multimedia Component emphasizes the creation of digital art for print, video and electronic media. This component of the program includes courses in: Image Manipulation, Vector Art, 2D Animation, Interactive Design, Web Design, Video production and 3D Printing. Hands-on experience includes operating a laser engraver, heat presses, graphics tablets, multi-camera editors, image scanners and associated accessories to produce t-shirts, personalized pens, glasses, picture frames, TV shows and more. This component offers classes in the Adobe Certified Associate for Illustrator and Premier.

Photography Component covers the techniques of traditional and digital photography highlighting skills required in advertising, portraiture, multimedia, commercial and fine art. This component of the program includes courses in: Film and Darkroom Photography, Digital Photography, Studio Lighting, and Multimedia Photography. . This component offers classes in the Adobe Certified Associate for PhotoShop.

Digital Reproduction Component emphasizes the use of current technologies in both conventional printing and digital reproduction. This component of the program includes courses in: Design and Reproduction, Screen Printing, and Production Graphics. This component offers classes in the Adobe Certified Associate for InDesign.

Articulation agreements with Ocean County College, the Art Institute of Philadelphia and Academy for Media Productions (AMP) have been established to provide students with an opportunity to earn college credit or advanced placement upon successful completion of this program

Students who have graduated from high school have the option to attend the Design and Visual Communication Program full-time, two sessions per day, for an intensive completion of the program in a single year.

Fashion Design/Merchandising

FASHION DESIGN /MERCHANDISING

Ever wonder what it’s like to be a part of the exciting fashion industry? Well, here at OCVTS you can find out. Students will explore and develop skills in the areas of Fashion Design, Merchandising, Marketing, and Retail. They will also learn sewing basics, garment construction, design concepts, fashion illustration, fashion terminology, trend research, buying concepts, advertising, and textile science taught through hands-on experiences utilizing industry tools and off-campus activities with professional industry partners. Students will also have the opportunity to showcase their skills and knowledge through participation in conferences and competitions as members of FCCLA, a national youth leadership organization. Students will be provided exposure to a variety of colleges offering fashion programs during the course of this 2 year program. They will also create a portfolio of work highlighting the skills they have learned, which will be a valuable asset in the college application process.

2 YEAR / 900 HOURS / BRICK

Articulation agreement with Brookdale Community College has been established to provide students with an opportunity to earn advanced college credit towards a Fashion Merchandising degree, upon successfully meeting the requirements of this articulation agreement. Recommended Skills: Familiarity with Google and Microsoft applications. Knowledge of basic math skills. Good communication skills, both verbal and written. Experience with sewing and drawing basics is a plus.
