OCVTS stands together in helping to create a world without bullying! We stood together and wore orange on October 19 to show unity for kindness, acceptance, and inclusion. PROGRAM AREA \ COURSE OF STUDY OCT 19, 2022 OCVTS Toms River Center Takes Charge In The Fight To Help End Bullying OCVTS Toms River Center Takes Charge In The Fight To Help End Bullying Nicholas Spiech, OCVTS OCT 19, 2022 OCVTS Toms River Center - The Ocean County Vocational Technical School District stands together in helping to create a world without bullying! We stood together and wore orange on October 19 to show unity for kindness, acceptance, and inclusion and to send a visible message that no child should ever experience bullying. Unity Day, started by PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Center as the signature event of National Bullying Prevention Month continues to grow every year as a tangible representation of the universal message that our society wants to promote kindness, acceptance and inclusion to prevent bullying. Why unity? For years, bullying was justified with expressions such as, “Bullying is a natural part of childhood,” “Bullying makes kids tougher,” or “Bullying is a rite of passage.” The goal of Unity Day is to bring together youth, parents, educators, businesses, and community members across the nation to emphasize the message that bullying is not acceptable, and that all students deserve to be safe in school, online, and in the community. Why the color orange? Unity Day is celebrated in October, and orange is a color commonly identified with the month and the autumn season. It is also a color that is associated with safety and visibility. It is a color described as warm and inviting, and its vibrancy makes an impactful statement. Why just a day? The event provides a catalyst for everyone to come together with a visual statement that our actions matter not only on one day, but every day. One young student shared that he wished Unity Day could be every day. When asked why he replied: “So that every day everyone would be nicer to me and to each other.” #ocvtsunityday #unityday #StopBullying #NationalUnityDay #ocvts Help Spread Awareness| Get Involved & Start Planning Now View the free Unity Day Guide featuring large scale ideas to individual action. https://www.pacer.org/bullying/nbpm/pdf/unity-day-guide.pdf Previous Next OCVTS Career Fair Brings Over 300 Trade School Students Face-to-Face with Automotive Industry Leaders MAY, 13 2026 OCVTS Hosts 5th Annual Ocean County Construction Trades Career Expo MAY 6, 2026 OCVTS Continues to Bring Workforce Leaders Together to Shape the Future of Career & Technical Education April 29, 2026 Ocean County Vocational Technical School Students Bring Home 43 Medals From New Jersey SkillsUSA Championships APRIL 21, 2026 58 Future Nurses Take the Next Step at OCVTS Capping Ceremony APRIL 13, 2026 OCVTS Hosts New Jersey SkillsUSA Marine Service Technology Championship Competition March 30, 2026 OCVTS Hosts New Jersey SkillsUSA Motorcycle Service Technology Championship Competition March 25, 2026 OCVTS Foundation’s 29th Annual International Chefs' Night Out Raises $85k to Benefit Ocean County Vo-Tech Students MARCH 11, 2026 MATES Wins 2026 Ocean County Mock Trial Championship February 25, 2026 OCVTS Grunin Performing Arts Academy Principal Honored as 2026 New Jersey Thespian Outstanding Administrator February 10, 2026 OCVTS Annual Open House Empowers CTE Students to Pursue High-Demand Careers February 9, 2026 Ocean County Vocational Technical School and Design 446 Launch Innovative Partnership December 3, 2025 OCVTS Toms River Center Takes Charge In The Fight To Help End Bullying Nicholas Spiech, OCVTS OCT 19, 2022 OCVTS Toms River Center Takes Charge In The Fight To Help End Bullying Previous OCVTS Toms River Center - The Ocean County Vocational Technical School District stands together in helping to create a world without bullying! 2025 Construction Trades Career Expo, hosted by the Ocean County Vocational Technical School, was a successful event that highlighted the importance of trade schools in the construction industry. PROGRAM AREA \ COURSE OF STUDY MAY 14, 2025 OCVTS Hosts 4th Annual Ocean County Construction Trades Career Expo OCVTS Hosts 4th Annual Ocean County Construction Trades Career Expo Nicholas Spiech, OCVTS MAY 14, 2025 Ocean County, NJ – The 2025 Construction Trades Career Expo, hosted by Ocean County Vocational Technical School, was a successful event that highlighted the importance of trade schools in the construction industry. Held on May 14, 2025, the event welcomed over 500 vocational and high school students, members of the general public, and more than 58 key construction industry employers. Trade schools play a critical role in the construction industry by providing students with the knowledge and skills necessary to become skilled craft professionals. These professionals include equipment operators, carpenters, pipefitters, electricians, plumbers, welders, masons, and service technicians, among others. The construction industry relies on these skilled craft professionals to complete complex projects, and trade schools are instrumental in producing them. One of the many highlights of the career expo was the onsite interviews that were conducted by the construction industry employers. The interviews provided an opportunity for students to showcase their skills and knowledge and potentially secure employment opportunities. It also allowed employers to meet and evaluate potential candidates for their future workforce. The event also included break out panel discussions and Q&A’s covering the construction industry, employment expectations, and training opportunities. These sessions provided valuable information to attendees and highlighted the various career opportunities available in the construction industry. Panelists included representatives from Eosso Brothers Paving, Esposito Construction, Stavola, Redaelli Industries, Michael J. Wright Construction, All County Exteriors, Woodhaven Lumber, and CMM Custom Homes. The event was held at Shoretown Ballpark, home of the Jersey Shore BlueClaws, located in Lakewood, New Jersey. The venue provided ample space for the event, including an area for the Excavator Rodeo—a competition featuring six top heavy equipment operators from the region. Competitors included Esposito Construction, Stavola, George Harms Construction, Earle, Eosso Brothers Paving, and the OCVTS Heavy Equipment Operator Program. Nathan Engle, a student in the Ocean County Vocational Technical School’s Heavy Equipment Operator Program, was among the competitors. Dylan Bonato, a 2024 graduate of the same program, competed for Team Earle. Congratulations to Mike Poskonka and Team Esposito Construction on becoming two-time champions of the Excavator Rodeo Challenge. The 2020 academic year posed a unique challenge to students, as the COVID-19 crisis forced OCVTS’ students and instructors to move towards remote learning in mid-March. Much in the spirit of OCVTS the students and staff faced the challenge head-on, finishing the academic year and obtaining their certifications remotely. Superintendent Karen L. Homiek of the Ocean County Vocational Technical School District certified the graduating classes of the Marine Academy of Technology and Environmental Science, OCVTS Grunin Performing Arts Academy, and Academy of Law and Public Safety. In Superintendent Homiek’s address to the students she recognized that the graduates were deprived of key milestones and faced unprecedented challenges. She added, “It has been a very long journey to get here but I do believe that the journey was well worth the effort. Despite the pandemic that continues to complicate all of our lives, you, with the help of your teachers and administrators, finished the year with as much learning, collaboration, communication and celebration possible.” Attendees of the ceremonies included, Joseph Vicari, Freeholder Director, Stephen Scaturro, Vice President of the OCVTS Board of Education, Maureen Stankowitz, OCVTS Board member, Dr. Michael B. Maschi, Assistant Superintendent, and Frank J. Frazee, Business Administrator. The Marine Academy of Technology and Environmental Science (MATES) is a specialized high school centered around marine and environmental science. During the months of December and January, GPAA and NJ Legal One teamed up to shoot a learning video for Legal One. Anthony Ciccotelli and Carolyn Little played a huge role in casting and managing crew for the production. Mr. Ciccotelli was instrumental in the script writing and facilitating the entire process. Current students, graduates, parents, staff and guests all played a role in this production. LEGAL ONE NJ is “the leading provider of education law workshops, online courses, and webinars for school leaders and teachers on critical legal issues. The PSA’s theme centers around the rights of transgendered students and how educators and staff members can support these students. The script itself was created with the intention to send out to teachers all over the country. After the script was completed, many hours were spent with the production team on creating the best plan for the PSA and the GPAA students. The production team included LEGAL ONE NJ’s Director of Legal Education and National Research David Nash, LEGAL ONE NJ’s Video Editor John Lynn, and GPAA’s Theatre Instructors Anthony Ciccotelli and Carolyn Little. Once the schedule was made, Ciccotelli and Little held auditions for the GPAA acting majors, GPAA alumni, and theatre professionals. A total of 22 GPAA students were selected to be a participant in the cast or crew for the production. After casting, filming began on the GPAA Campus during the month of December. GPAA students who chose not to act in the film, were able to work crew. They learned how to manage portable lights, a boom mic, and much, much more. Filming locations included classrooms, the Gia Prima Blackbox, and even the parking lots. Despite some bad weather and a campus-wide blackout, filming managed to persevere. For one particular scene, the school board meeting, we even had current GPAA families join us for the recording. After two weeks of filming a variety of shots, backed up by B roll, the film was complete. LEGAL ONE NJ is hoping to release the PSA in the upcoming months.
