    OCVTS | MATES - Information for Applicants. Marine Academy of Technology & Environmental Science PROGRAM AREA \ COURSE OF STUDY MARINE ACADEMY OF TECHNOLOGY & ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE MATES INFO FOR APPLICANTS MATES FOR THE APPLICANT The Marine Academy of Technology and Environmental Science is a public high school administered by the Ocean County Vocational Technical School district. MATES is designed to give its students a rigorous academic curriculum with concentration in the areas of math, science and technology. The school exists within the community to provide a challenging, unique, hands-on learning experience for students interested in pursuing a math or science-related career. The academy opened in September 2001 for students entering the ninth grade. STUDENT SELECTION AND ADMISSION Students are selected through a competitive application process and enter at the ninth grade level. Applicants must reside in Ocean County to be eligible for admission. All school districts in Ocean County are eligible to participate in sending applications to the program. ADMISSION To be eligible for admission the student should be enrolled in and successfully complete an eighth grade pro-gram that includes: English, math (Algebra I preferred), science, social studies and physical education. A Spanish I elective is also recommended, or a summer program equivalency will be required. TRANSPORTATION The student’s resident district will be responsible for transporting the student to MATES. PROGRAM DESCRIPTION The school day runs from 7:30AM until 1:43PM. Classes are offered in a block time similar to a typical college program. Each semester students receive a different schedule. The course of study meets and exceeds the New Jersey Student Learning standards.

    OCVTS, offers a wide range of career and technical training programs in the area of Health Sciences: Dental Assisting; Health & Fitness Technology; Medical Assistant; and Pre-Nursing PROGRAM AREA \ COURSE OF STUDY COURSE OF STUDY HEALTH SCIENCES Dental Assisting; Emergency Medical Technician; Health & Fitness Technology; Medical Assistant; Pre-Nursing; Veterinary Assistant AN INDUSTRY-LEADING LEARNING EXPERIENCE En Español DENTAL ASSISTING 2 YEARS / 900 HOURS / TOMS RIVER This program provides comprehensive training in four-handed dentistry, laboratory skills, preventive techniques, operative treatment, and specialty areas. A key component of the program is clinical experience in a dental office, for which students must provide their own transportation.The curriculum prepares students for a variety of dental careers, including dental hygienist, lab technician, x-ray technician, dentist, and employment as a dental assistant. Additional certifications allow students to become certified or registered dental assistants, licensed to perform oral procedures under the supervision of a dentist. Second-year students have the opportunity to take the Infection Control Board Exam through the Dental Assisting National Board, initiating the Certified Dental Assistant credential. Upon completion of the dental assisting program, students may enroll in the Dental Radiology Program. To participate, students must be at least 18 years old, hold a high school diploma or GED, and have successfully completed the dental assisting program. The radiology course includes 45 hours of instruction—25 hours didactic and 20 hours lab—covering all New Jersey Radiologic Technology Board of Examiners objectives, along with supervised clinical practice arranged by OCVTS. Upon successful completion, students are eligible to take the Dental X-ray Examination for licensure. More Details Talk to Us En Español EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN (EMT) 1 YEAR / 450 HOURS / WARETOWN This course prepares students with the knowledge and hands-on skills needed to provide emergency medical care as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). Through classroom instruction, lab simulations, and field experiences, students learn to assess patients, manage medical and trauma emergencies, perform CPR, and use life-saving equipment such as automated external defibrillators (AEDs) and airway management devices. Emphasis is placed on teamwork, critical thinking, and professional communication in emergency situations. Students who successfully complete the course meet the training requirements to sit for the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) examination and qualify for New Jersey EMT certification.     OCVTS Grunin Performing Arts Academy - Info for Applicants PROGRAM AREA \ COURSE OF STUDY GRUNIN PERFORMING ARTS ACADEMY GPAA INFO FOR APPLICANTS GPAA FOR THE APPLICANT Academy admission information sessions provide an opportunity to receive an in-depth overview of the academy approach to learning and are designed to help students and their families make informed decisions regarding an educational pathway that is in the best interest of each student. Students receive access to all admission materials, including applications, at the information sessions. Middle school students and their families are encouraged to attend an admission information session to learn more. STUDENT SELECTION AND ADMISSION Students are selected through a competitive application process. For admission, students are assessed using the applicant’s current academic transcript, as well as their performance on admissions exams and an audition/interview. Students typically enter the Grunin Performing Arts Academy at the 9th grade level, however, openings for students presently enrolled in 9th grade may be available and will be determined annually. Applicants must reside in Ocean County to be eligible for admission. All school districts in Ocean County are eligible to participate in sending applications to the program. OCVTS Grunin Performing Arts students are offered the skills necessary to develop and manage a career in the arts industry. Students are provided with the opportunity to perform and record in a professional audio recording studio. Trips are taken to see professional performances. Guest artists are invited to the school to perform and train our students.. ADVANCED CURRICULUM OFFERINGS The Grunin Performing Arts Academy has forged a partnership with Ocean County College that provides our students with the opportunity to earn most of the credits needed for an associate’s degree. In embedded classes, Ocean County College learning objectives and expectations have been aligned with ours to maintain coursework integrity, as well as ensure academic rigor. Curriculum includes: extensive safety training, use of hand and power tools, blueprint reading, layout, industry-related mathematics, skills in framing, roofing, sheathing, siding, door and window installation, staircases, drywall installation, insulation, trim work, ceilings and floors. Students will receive the 10-hour OSHA Hazard Recognition Training Pro-gram as well as CPR/AED First Aid training. Through ongoing partnerships with outside agencies, students receive real-world, hands-on experience in all phases of construction as they work on-site at a selected home construction site in Ocean County. This program emphasizes physician assisting skills and includes administrative and clinical components. The curriculum covers medical terminology and abbreviations, medical law and ethics, insurance billing and coding, medical history intake, computerized scheduling, infection control, vital signs and electrocardiograms. Laboratory procedures include urinalysis, strep tests, capillary sticks and venipuncture techniques. Students will learn to assist the physician with special procedures. Students may pursue certification as a National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) or continue their studies for radiology technician, licensed practical or registered nurse, health information technologist, billing and coding specialist or other healthcare careers.
