    Academy Background
    The Academy of Law & Public Safety is one of the career academies administered by the Ocean County Vocational Technical School District. The shared-time Law & Public Safety program was established in 2001, offering a unique and comprehensive foundation of skills for Ocean County students interested in pursuing a career in public safety. The academy began in 2001 as a shared-time program for high school juniors and se¬niors. The full-time academy was established in 2015. Last year it saw the integration of a sophomore class and in September 2018 will welcome its first freshman students.

    ALPS Mission
    The mission of the Academy of Law and Public Safety is to provide a rigorous theme-based curriculum in conjunction with community and higher education partnerships. Ocean County students acquire knowledge, skills and professional ethics while utilizing the latest technology related to criminal justice.

    Located Ocean County Fire and First Aid Training Center in Waretown, New Jersey.

    The Ocean County Vocational Technical School District is responsible for recruitment, admissions, and the instructional program. There are over 23,000 high school students enrolled in Ocean County Public Schools. The Academy of Law and Public Safety is a competitive, specialized high school program that will select students for its 11th grade class each year from applicants found within the public and private schools of Ocean County.

    According to Academy of Law and Public Safety Records Since 2008:
    301 students graduated from the program
    258 (86%) have gone on to college
    27 (9%) have gone on to military (all branches)
    16 (5%) have gone directly to work

    Law & Public Safety graduates have been hired and/or are currently employed with over 30 New Jersey Police Departments, as well as New Jersey Departments of Correction, the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office, the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, and the New Jersey Administrative Office of the Courts.
