The OCVTS Audio Engineering Program has launched a new partnership with KEF Audio, a global leader in high-fidelity sound innovation. The collaboration introduces a series of immersive audio workshops, upgraded studio technology, and scholarship opportunities designed to enhance student learning through immersive audio technology and hands-on professional experience. On October 16, David Kroll, Vice President of KEF America, visited OCVTS to host the first workshop in the series, focusing on ATMOS Speaker Setup and Dolby Atmos sound design. Students participated in a hands-on session that introduced them to immersive audio concepts, including Pro Logic hearing, speaker positioning, installation, channel placement, and speaker test toning—skills directly tied to careers in the evolving audio, video, and film industries. They also assisted in installing two new Atmos-enabled audio mixing suites within OCVTS’s state-of-the-art, multi-studio recording facility. The partnership underscores OCVTS’s ongoing commitment to developing strong industry connections that enrich career and technical education. KEF Audio has generously donated over $33,000 worth of KEF Atmos equipment, upgrading OCVTS’s facilities to provide students with access to cutting-edge technologies used in professional sound for video, film, television, and spatial audio production. In addition, KEF has established a $13,500 Education Scholarship Fund for OCVTS Audio Engineering students over three academic years. These project-based scholarships will recognize excellence in Immersive Audio and Atmos Soundtrack (Audio + Video) projects, directly supporting the district’s mission to prepare students for continued education and success in rapidly evolving audio technology industry. This partnership also creates pathways for internships, mentorships, and potential career opportunities with KEF, its industry partners, and across the broader music, film, and media production landscape. AUDIO ENGINEERING GRUNIN PERFORMING ARTS ACADEMY (GPAA) Ocean County Vocational Technical School District (The Audio Engineering Program is availble to full-time high school students, shared-time and adult students) The Audio Engineering program combines both art and science in a field that requires specialized technical knowledge. Students will be guided through the process of capturing sound (audio) and storing it in both the digital and analog mediums for reproduction. Students will learn recording technology through classroom instruction and application of these techniques using professional recording equipment at the school’s multiple studio recording facility. The program will be taught by professionals from the recording industry through real recording sessions with artists from many musical genres including commercials and voice over production. Curriculum content will cover the following: multimedia production, physics of sound, acoustics, multi-track recording/digital audio technology, Pro Tools-Digital Audio Workstations and musical instrument technology, design and application of microphones, computer digital editing and mastering, the audio production console, signal processors, audio for visual production and post production, the music business and sound reinforcement (concert sound). This gathering provided a valuable platform for attendees to expand their leadership skills, sharpen their talents, explore career pathways, and listen to inspiring speakers. The highly anticipated Students Taking Action with Recognition (STAR) Events were at the heart of the conference. Over 4,300 FCCLA Members competed in these events, where they were recognized for their proficiency and achievement in chapter and individual projects, leadership skills, and career preparation. The collaboration between youth and adults in managing the events and evaluating participants allowed students to develop real-world skills and gain valuable insights. STAR Events are pivotal in supporting student development by enhancing their classroom experience and guiding them toward successful career pathways. With more than 30 events to choose from, participants had the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge, skills, and abilities by actively addressing essential issues concerning families, careers, or communities. By researching the topic and implementing projects to advocate for positive change, students acquired valuable skills and industry insights needed to thrive in the 21st century. We are thrilled to share that in the Repurpose and Redesign category, Hannah Post and Riley Budenas, a dynamic duo from Ocean County Vocational Technical School, demonstrated their exceptional talent and innovation, securing a gold medal. Their remarkable performance also positioned them as top 10 national finalists and secured them an impressive Fifth place overall. Their incredible designs and remarkable skills truly set them apart, highlighting their extraordinary talent and expertise. Furthermore, in the Career Investigation category, Nahavi Rosas-Hernandez showcased exemplary research and oral presentation skills, earning a gold medal. In the Job Interview category, Jessie Stahnke showcased outstanding preparation and communication skills, also earning a gold medal. Moreover, in the Fashion Construction category, Sara Tapia exhibited her impressive skills and craftsmanship, earning a well-deserved silver medal. Fifty-four Practical Nursing students at OCVTS recently received the traditional nurse’s cap at a ceremony recognizing the achievements and accomplishments in completing the first half of the intense and comprehensive nursing program. PROGRAM AREA \ COURSE OF STUDY MARCH 29, 2022 OCVTS NURSING STUDENTS RECOGNIZED AT TRADITIONAL CAPPING CEREMONY OCVTS NURSING STUDENTS RECOGNIZED AT TRADITIONAL CAPPING CEREMONY OCVTS Practical Nursing MARCH 29, 2022 Fifty-four Practical Nursing students at Ocean County Vocational Technical School (OCVTS) recently received the traditional nurse’s cap at a ceremony recognizing the achievements and accomplishments in completing the first half of the intense and comprehensive nursing program. The students have successfully completed many hours of classroom and skills testing. They will now continue on to specialty rotations at local health facilities. A practical nurse is trained to care for acute, sub-acute, convalescent and chronically ill patients under the direction of a registered nurse and/or licensed physician. The OCVTS nursing students continue to gain valuable experience in the state-of-the-art nursing skills lab, funded through a generous donation from the Hirair and Anna Hovnanian Foundation. The lab, located at the OCVTS Toms River Center, equipped with the latest equipment and technology provides a reality-based approach to learning, including a life-like manikin which can be programmed to simulate a myriad of childbirth scenarios. Additionally, OCVTS has established agreements with over a dozen local hospitals and health care facilities which provide valuable opportunities for students to gain experience and apply classroom theory. Graduation is scheduled for the end of June. At that time students will be prepared to take the NCLEX-PN for qualification as a Licensed Practical Nurse in New Jersey. Historically, OCVTS nursing graduates’ pass rate for the NCLEX-PN has surpassed both the state and national average pass rate. The OCVTS Practical Nursing Program was the first program offered at OCVTS and began in 1959. It is approved by the New Jersey Board of Nursing and the Department of Education. The program has a very competitive admissions process and class sizes are limited. It is the largest vocational technical-based nursing program in New Jersey. On November 19, Marine Service Technology students from OCVTS toured Viking Yacht Center in New Gretna, NJ, gaining hands-on insight into yacht craftsmanship and production. This visit, made possible through OCVTS’s partnership with Viking Yacht, highlights how career and technical education prepares students for successful careers while supporting the local workforce. The visit offered an immersive experience into the intricate craftsmanship behind building luxury sport fishing yachts. During the tour, students explored several key departments, including welding, paint and prep, cabinetmaking, woodworking, fiberglass production, and the assembly line where these impressive vessels come to life. One highlight of the day was stepping aboard an 82-foot yacht to admire the finished product, complete with a salon, galley, heads, engine room, bunks, and staterooms. Students also visited the docks to observe boats being prepared for delivery, including installations of towers and advanced electronics. This enriching experience was made possible through OCVTS’s strong partnership with Viking Yacht Marine Group. For years, Viking Yacht has been a valuable ally in advancing career and technical education (CTE) in Ocean County. Industry partnerships like this are vital to ensuring that CTE programs remain dynamic and relevant. Additionally, two other OCVTS alumni are currently employed across various Viking Yacht departments, further highlighting the impact of this enduring partnership. ABOUT OCVTS The Ocean County Vocational Technical School offers career majors in over 30 areas for students going on to college or directly to the world of work. OCVTS works hand-in-hand with sending schools to provide a complete education for high school students. Students may attend during their junior and senior year, as well as post graduate. The students attend “home school” for half a day and are transported to the vocational center for the other half. Ties are maintained with the home school, where they pursue academic classes, take part in sports or other extracurricular activities, and graduate. School counseling services are jointly provided by the vocational school and the home district. Students receive a certificate from OCVTS, as well as a high school diploma from their home school.
