This year hosted at the beautiful Lacey Elks Lodge on Beach Avenue in Lacey. The Lacey Elks did a fantastic job providing their building for this year's event. A nice crowd attended the 25th annual event and there was lots of food from all over Ocean County, including the culinary students at Ocean County Vocational-Technical School. Sue Moll and I were glad to represent 92.7 WOBM and Townsquare Media at this year's event, the first in two years due to the pandemic and it was great to see friends from the community, local businesses, and the schools. There were lots of foods to sample. Everything from starters to dessert and everything in between. So many different types of foods. All the vendors did a fantastic job and everyone enjoyed the night. This event is always unique because each year there are different types of foods and games to play. After eating folks were entertained with a fun gift auction with lots of cool prizes and of course proceeds going to the schools of OCVTS. Take a look at our Mega-Photo Gallery and see some of the fun from Monday night here in Ocean County. Already looking forward to the 26th edition next year! Thanks to all involved and Nancy Weber Loeffert and her staff. - OCVTS Hosts Ribbon-Cutting Ceremonies Showcasing Major Expansion and Renovation Projects to Fuel Workforce Development in Ocean County
The Ocean County Vocational Technical School District (OCVTS) is proud to announce two major milestones that will expand opportunities for students and strengthen workforce development across Ocean County. PROGRAM AREA \ COURSE OF STUDY SEPTEMBER 15, 2025 OCVTS Hosts Ribbon-Cutting Ceremonies Showcasing Major Expansion and Renovation Projects to Fuel Workforce Development in Ocean County OCVTS Hosts Ribbon-Cutting Ceremonies Showcasing Major Expansion and Renovation Projects to Fuel Workforce Development in Ocean County Nicholas Spiech, OCVTS SEPTEMBER 15, 2025 The Ocean County Vocational Technical School District (OCVTS) is proud to announce two major milestones that will expand opportunities for students and strengthen workforce development across Ocean County. On September 15, Ocean County Commissioners Frank Sadeghi, Robert Arace, and Jennifer Bacchione joined OCVTS for ribbon-cutting ceremonies at two transformative projects. The first celebration marked the Jackson Center Expansion Project—a 24,865 sq. ft. addition to our Jackson Center at 850 Toms River Road. The expansion features four brand-new state-of-the-art shops, four modern classrooms, and an upgraded security vestibule. With capacity for 192 students, the new space prepares students for high-demand careers in Electrical, Plumbing, Welding, and Medical Assisting. Students will gain hands-on training using industry-standard tools and credentials that lead directly to meaningful, good-paying jobs. This project was made possible in part through the Securing Our Children’s Future Bond Act. The second milestone is the relocation of the Academy of Law & Public Safety (ALPS). Beginning in Fall 2025, ALPS will move from its Waretown location into the newly renovated Russell Building at Ocean County College—currently home to our Pre-Nursing program. This relocation and renovation project not only enhances the partnership between OCVTS and Ocean County College, but it also opens the door for ALPS students to graduate with both a high school diploma and college credits. At ALPS, students experience a full-time, themed high school program where they receive hands-on training in law enforcement, homeland security, and public safety, while building a strong academic foundation and future career pathway. Importantly, the move will also allow OCVTS to launch three additional trades-related programs at the Waretown location, further expanding options for students interested in pursuing skilled career paths. Beyond its educational impact, this expansion holds broader significance for the local community. The projects are expected to create jobs, foster partnerships with local businesses in the construction and medical fields, and generate lasting economic benefits that will ripple throughout the region. Together, these initiatives reflect OCVTS’s mission to prepare students with the skills, training, and opportunities needed to succeed in today’s workforce—and to ensure Ocean County continues to thrive. The Ocean County Vocational Technical School District extends its sincere gratitude to all who helped make the ribbon-cutting ceremonies a memorable moment. PROGRAM AREA \ COURSE OF STUDY MAY 15, 2024 OCVTS Hosts 3rd Annual Ocean County Construction Trades Career Expo OCVTS Hosts 3rd Annual Ocean County Construction Trades Career Expo Nicholas Spiech MAY 15, 2024 Ocean County, NJ – The 2024 Construction Trades Career Expo, hosted by the Ocean County Vocational Technical School was a successful event that highlighted the importance of trade schools in the construction industry. The event, held on May 15, 2024, was attended by several vocational students, high school students, the general public, and over 50 key construction industry employers. Trade schools play a critical role in the construction industry by providing students with the knowledge and skills necessary to become skilled craft professionals. These professionals include equipment operators, carpenters, pipefitters, electricians, plumbers, welders, masons, and service technicians, among others. The construction industry relies on these skilled craft professionals to complete complex projects, and trade schools are instrumental in producing them. One of the many highlights of the career expo was the onsite interviews that were conducted by the construction industry employers. The interviews provided an opportunity for students to showcase their skills and knowledge and potentially secure employment opportunities. It also allowed employers to meet and evaluate potential candidates for their future workforce. The event also included break out panel discussions covering the construction industry, employment expectations, and training opportunities. These sessions provided valuable information to attendees and highlighted the various career opportunities available in the construction industry. The event was held at the Shoretown BallPark, home of the "Jersey Shore BlueClaws," located in Lakewood, New Jersey. The venue provided ample space for the event, including an area for the Excavator Rodeo, a competition between six top heavy equipment operators in the area, which included Esposito Construction, Stavola, George Harms Construction, Earle, Eosso Brothers Paving, and the OCVTS Heavy Equipment Operator Program. Nick Miletto, an Ocean County Vocational Technical Heavy Equipment Operator student, was among the competitors. Congratulations to Mike Poskonka and Team Esposito Construction on their big win! The Construction Trades Career Expo is an annual community event that is free and open to the public. - OCVTS Takes Charge In The Fight To Help End Bullying
OCVTS stands together in helping to create a world without bullying! We stood together and wore orange on October 18 to show unity for kindness, acceptance, and inclusion. PROGRAM AREA \ COURSE OF STUDY OCT 18, 2023 OCVTS Takes Charge In The Fight To Help End Bullying OCVTS Takes Charge In The Fight To Help End Bullying Nicholas Spiech, OCVTS OCT 18, 2023 The Ocean County Vocational Technical School District stands together in helping to create a world without bullying! We stood together and wore orange on October 18 to show unity for kindness, acceptance, and inclusion and to send a visible message that no child should ever experience bullying. Unity Day, started by PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Center as the signature event of National Bullying Prevention Month continues to grow every year as a tangible representation of the universal message that our society wants to promote kindness, acceptance and inclusion to prevent bullying. Why unity? For years, bullying was justified with expressions such as, “Bullying is a natural part of childhood,” “Bullying makes kids tougher,” or “Bullying is a rite of passage.” The goal of Unity Day is to bring together youth, parents, educators, businesses, and community members across the nation to emphasize the message that bullying is not acceptable, and that all students deserve to be safe in school, online, and in the community. Why the color orange? Unity Day is celebrated in October, and orange is a color commonly identified with the month and the autumn season. It is also a color that is associated with safety and visibility. It is a color described as warm and inviting, and its vibrancy makes an impactful statement. Why just a day? The event provides a catalyst for everyone to come together with a visual statement that our actions matter not only on one day, but every day. One young student shared that he wished Unity Day could be every day. When asked why he replied: “So that every day everyone would be nicer to me and to each other.” #ocvtsunityday #UnityDay #UnityEveryDay #StopBullying #NationalUnityDay #ocvts Help Spread Awareness| Get Involved & Start Planning Now View the free Unity Day Guide featuring large scale ideas to individual action. https://www.pacer.org/bullying/nbpm/pdf/unity-day-guide.pdf Previous Next OCVTS Career Fair Brings Over 300 Trade School Students Face-to-Face with Automotive Industry Leaders MAY, 13 2026 OCVTS Hosts 5th Annual Ocean County Construction Trades Career Expo MAY 6, 2026 OCVTS Continues to Bring Workforce Leaders Together to Shape the Future of Career & Technical Education April 29, 2026 Ocean County Vocational Technical School Students Bring Home 43 Medals From New Jersey SkillsUSA Championships APRIL 21, 2026 58 Future Nurses Take the Next Step at OCVTS Capping Ceremony APRIL 13, 2026 OCVTS Hosts New Jersey SkillsUSA Marine Service Technology Championship Competition March 30, 2026 OCVTS Hosts New Jersey SkillsUSA Motorcycle Service Technology Championship Competition March 25, 2026 OCVTS Foundation’s 29th Annual International Chefs' Night Out Raises $85k to Benefit Ocean County Vo-Tech Students MARCH 11, 2026 MATES Wins 2026 Ocean County Mock Trial Championship February 25, 2026 OCVTS Grunin Performing Arts Academy Principal Honored as 2026 New Jersey Thespian Outstanding Administrator February 10, 2026 OCVTS Annual Open House Empowers CTE Students to Pursue High-Demand Careers February 9, 2026 Ocean County Vocational Technical School and Design 446 Launch Innovative Partnership December 3, 2025 OCVTS Takes Charge In The Fight To Help End Bullying Nicholas Spiech, OCVTS OCT 18, 2023 OCVTS Takes Charge In The Fight To Help End Bullying Previous The Ocean County Vocational Technical School District stands together in helping to create a world without bullying! We are pleased to share their stories as they reflect on their time at UArizona. Next up in the senior spotlight series is Brianna Hoegler. Brianna Hoegler Hometown: Little Egg Harbor, New Jersey Degree: Bachelor of Science in Geosciences (emphasis in Earth, Oceans, and Climate), Minors in History and Marine Science College of Science: College of Science: Why did you choose your area of study? Brianna: I've known that I wanted to work in science for a long time, and I grew up in an ecologically and climatically vulnerable area along the bay in New Jersey, so I've had an interest in protecting the environment since I was a young kid. I attended a science-focused public magnet school for high school, and there I was able to take many different science classes while conducting independent research. There, I found my love for soils, sediments, oceanography, and geology, and I knew that I wanted to major in geosciences in college. COS: Tell us about a class or research project you really enjoyed Brianna: I've been working in Dr. Diane Thompson's Tropical Climate and Coral Reefs Lab since my sophomore year. There, I use nitrogen isotopes deposited in lake sediments through flamingo guano to learn more about the paleo-productivity of the eastern tropical Pacific. My lab work has led me to become a more confident scientist and scholar, and I have been given the opportunity to present my work at a variety of conferences, including the AGU Fall Meeting in New Orleans this past December. Most importantly, though, Dr. Thompson has been an invaluable mentor and advisor over the past three years that I have worked with her. COS: What is one specific memory from your time at UA that you'll cherish forever? Brianna: There are so many moments that are special to me from my time at the University of Arizona. Some of the most special moments were the times I got to spend just hanging out with the amazing friends I made here, whether we were grabbing Sunday brunch, hiking in the mountains, or just chatting outside on the Mall. COS:What is next for you after graduation? Brianna: I'm planning on going to graduate school in the fall. I will be attending Brown University to pursue a PhD in Earth, Environmental, and Planetary Science. There, I will work with Dr. Tim Herbert to reconstruct past climates and changes in ocean currents using deep-sea sediment cores.
