- OCVTS NURSING STUDENTS RECOGNIZED AT TRADITIONAL CAPPING CEREMONY
Fifty-four Practical Nursing students at OCVTS recently received the traditional nurse’s cap at a ceremony recognizing the achievements and accomplishments in completing the first half of the intense and comprehensive nursing program. PROGRAM AREA \ COURSE OF STUDY MARCH 29, 2022 OCVTS NURSING STUDENTS RECOGNIZED AT TRADITIONAL CAPPING CEREMONY OCVTS NURSING STUDENTS RECOGNIZED AT TRADITIONAL CAPPING CEREMONY OCVTS Practical Nursing MARCH 29, 2022 Fifty-four Practical Nursing students at Ocean County Vocational Technical School (OCVTS) recently received the traditional nurse’s cap at a ceremony recognizing the achievements and accomplishments in completing the first half of the intense and comprehensive nursing program. The students have successfully completed many hours of classroom and skills testing. They will now continue on to specialty rotations at local health facilities. A practical nurse is trained to care for acute, sub-acute, convalescent and chronically ill patients under the direction of a registered nurse and/or licensed physician. The OCVTS nursing students continue to gain valuable experience in the state-of-the-art nursing skills lab, funded through a generous donation from the Hirair and Anna Hovnanian Foundation. The lab, located at the OCVTS Toms River Center, equipped with the latest equipment and technology provides a reality-based approach to learning, including a life-like manikin which can be programmed to simulate a myriad of childbirth scenarios. Additionally, OCVTS has established agreements with over a dozen local hospitals and health care facilities which provide valuable opportunities for students to gain experience and apply classroom theory. Graduation is scheduled for the end of June. At that time students will be prepared to take the NCLEX-PN for qualification as a Licensed Practical Nurse in New Jersey. Historically, OCVTS nursing graduates’ pass rate for the NCLEX-PN has surpassed both the state and national average pass rate. This visit, made possible through OCVTS’s partnership with Viking Yacht, highlights how career and technical education prepares students for successful careers while supporting the local workforce. PROGRAM AREA \ COURSE OF STUDY NOV, 25, 2024 Marine Service Technology Students Tour Viking Yacht and Witness Career Opportunities in Action Marine Service Technology Students Tour Viking Yacht and Witness Career Opportunities in Action Nicholas Spiech NOV, 25, 2024 Ocean County, NJ- On November 19, students from the Marine Service Technology program at Ocean County Vocational Technical School (OCVTS) had the unique opportunity to tour the renowned Viking Yacht Center in New Gretna, New Jersey. The visit offered an immersive experience into the intricate craftsmanship behind building luxury sport fishing yachts. During the tour, students explored several key departments, including welding, paint and prep, cabinetmaking, woodworking, fiberglass production, and the assembly line where these impressive vessels come to life. One highlight of the day was stepping aboard an 82-foot yacht to admire the finished product, complete with a salon, galley, heads, engine room, bunks, and staterooms. Students also visited the docks to observe boats being prepared for delivery, including installations of towers and advanced electronics. This enriching experience was made possible through OCVTS’s strong partnership with Viking Yacht Marine Group. For years, Viking Yacht has been a valuable ally in advancing career and technical education (CTE) in Ocean County. Industry partnerships like this are vital to ensuring that CTE programs remain dynamic and relevant. By collaborating with industry leaders, OCVTS aligns its curriculum with the skills and standards demanded by the workforce, empowering students with hands-on training and career-ready expertise. Viking Yacht’s commitment to supporting career and technical education extends beyond tours and facility access; the company has also played a pivotal role in employing OCVTS graduates. For instance, Evan Bahrle, a 2012 alumnus of the Welding Technology program, has built a thriving career at Viking Yachts over the past 11 years. Now a head supervisor overseeing the Welding, Machining, and Powder Coating departments, Evan exemplifies how technical education can open doors to long-term success. Additionally, two other OCVTS alumni are currently employed across various Viking Yacht departments, further highlighting the impact of this enduring partnership. Through collaborations with industry leaders like Viking Yacht Marine Group, OCVTS continues to bridge the gap between education and industry, inspiring the next generation of skilled professionals and strengthening the local workforce. Ocean County Vocational Technical School provides an intensive and immersive educational experience aligned with the current and emerging demands of business, industry, and advanced education. PROGRAM AREA \ COURSE OF STUDY MAY 15, 2024 OCVTS Hosts 3rd Annual Ocean County Construction Trades Career Expo OCVTS Hosts 3rd Annual Ocean County Construction Trades Career Expo Nicholas Spiech MAY 15, 2024 Ocean County, NJ – The 2024 Construction Trades Career Expo, hosted by the Ocean County Vocational Technical School was a successful event that highlighted the importance of trade schools in the construction industry. The event, held on May 15, 2024, was attended by several vocational students, high school students, the general public, and over 50 key construction industry employers. Trade schools play a critical role in the construction industry by providing students with the knowledge and skills necessary to become skilled craft professionals. These professionals include equipment operators, carpenters, pipefitters, electricians, plumbers, welders, masons, and service technicians, among others. The construction industry relies on these skilled craft professionals to complete complex projects, and trade schools are instrumental in producing them. One of the many highlights of the career expo was the onsite interviews that were conducted by the construction industry employers. The interviews provided an opportunity for students to showcase their skills and knowledge and potentially secure employment opportunities. It also allowed employers to meet and evaluate potential candidates for their future workforce. The event also included break out panel discussions covering the construction industry, employment expectations, and training opportunities. These sessions provided valuable information to attendees and highlighted the various career opportunities available in the construction industry. The event was held at the Shoretown BallPark, home of the "Jersey Shore BlueClaws," located in Lakewood, New Jersey. The venue provided ample space for the event, including an area for the Excavator Rodeo, a competition between six top heavy equipment operators in the area, which included Esposito Construction, Stavola, George Harms Construction, Earle, Eosso Brothers Paving, and the OCVTS Heavy Equipment Operator Program. Nick Miletto, an Ocean County Vocational Technical Heavy Equipment Operator student, was among the competitors. Congratulations to Mike Poskonka and Team Esposito Construction on their big win!
