OCVTS Training and Industry Partnership Open Doors to Careers in Land Surveying and Engineering

Olmeda Consulting, LLC

October 14, 2026

Marc Olmeda, founder of Olmeda Consulting, LLC, is putting his more than 20 years of experience in professional land surveying to work both in the field and in the classroom by partnering with Ocean County Vocational Technical School (OCVTS) to provide students with hands-on internship opportunities in the surveying and geospatial industry.

Founded in 2024 and based in Manasquan, New Jersey, Olmeda Consulting provides a
comprehensive range of geospatial services, with a focus on accuracy, quality, safety, and dependable project delivery. As a professional land surveyor, Marc brings extensive practical experience to complex projects, combining technical knowledge, innovative problem-solving, and a commitment to continuous learning.

Through its internship partnership with OCVTS, Olmeda Consulting gives students the
opportunity to connect their vocational education with real-world industry experience. Interns gain firsthand exposure to surveying projects, professional equipment, field procedures, and the day-to-day responsibilities of working in the industry. This practical experience helps students better understand the profession, develop valuable skills, and explore potential career paths as they prepare to enter the workforce.

By aligning technical training with the needs of industry, OCVTS engineering programs help prepare students for career opportunities in engineering, land surveying, and related fields. The district’s established Engineering Technology program provides students with a strong technical foundation, while the new Civil Engineering CADD and Surveying program, launching in 2027, will broaden access to specialized training. This connection between education and employment is reflected in graduates Alberto Cegion and Payton Gordon, who were hired as Instrument Operators following internships with Olmeda Consulting. The company is now looking to OCVTS for a third candidate to join its team as a Junior CAD Drafter, highlighting the role of career and technical education in developing a skilled workforce.

For Marc, the partnership is more than introducing students to surveying equipment and techniques. “Surveying plays a part in so much of what gets built around us, yet many young people never hear about it as a career,” said Olmeda. “I want to help change that. Giving students the chance to get out in the field, ask questions, and see the work firsthand can open a door they didn’t know existed. I’ve learned a lot from others throughout my career, and I want to pass that knowledge on.”

He is passionate about educating young people about the opportunities available in the land surveying and geospatial fields and helping them build a foundation for future success. By sharing his knowledge and providing opportunities to learn directly from experienced professionals, he hopes to encourage more students to consider careers in an industry that plays an essential role in construction, engineering, land development, and infrastructure.

Olmeda Consulting is also proud to be a certified Minority Business Enterprise (MBE). This certification recognizes that the business meets the applicable ownership and control requirements for a minority-owned enterprise under its certifying organization's standards. MBE certification can help eligible businesses access supplier diversity programs, contracting opportunities, and relationships with organizations seeking to work with diverse businesses. For Olmeda Consulting, this designation is an important part of the company's identity and its participation in the broader business community.

At Olmeda Consulting, Marc emphasizes the importance of safety, quality, time management, and responsible budgeting on every project. He also encourages continued education, professional growth, and creative thinking to develop effective solutions to challenging assignments. These same principles carry into the company's approach to mentoring and training future professionals.

Marc looks forward to continuing the partnership with OCVTS and welcoming additional interns to Olmeda Consulting. By investing in students and providing meaningful, hands-on learning experiences, he hopes to help bridge the gap between vocational education and professional practice while supporting the future of the land surveying and geospatial industry.
