On September 4, the Ocean County Vocational Technical School District (OCVTS) celebrated a major milestone with a ribbon-cutting ceremony marking the completion of the Waretown Center Renovation Project. The 24,000-square-foot renovation represents a significant investment in career and technical education and the future of Ocean County’s workforce. The project includes six trade shops, six classrooms, and a security vestibule, along with substantial infrastructure upgrades, including a new HVAC system, electrical system, standby generator, energy-efficient lighting, fresh interior and exterior finishes, and new sidewalks.

The renovation increases the Waretown Center’s student capacity by 222 students, growing from 48 to 270 total students and representing a more than fivefold increase in access to career and technical education. The expanded offerings include Electrical Trades with capacity for 48 students, Veterinary Assistant with capacity for 48 students, Auto Servicing with capacity for 30 students, and Cosmetology with capacity for 48 students. The Waretown Center has also become home to the Bricklayer, Allied Craftworker, and Masonry program, which has capacity for 48 students and was formerly located at the OCVTS Brick Center. The Automotive Technology program, which was already located at the Waretown Center, will continue to serve up to 48 students.

These expanded offerings provide students with access to modern facilities, state-of-the-art equipment, and hands-on training that reflects the skills and technologies used in today’s workforce. Through career-focused education and practical experience, students are gaining the knowledge and technical skills needed to pursue rewarding careers while helping address the growing demand for skilled workers across Ocean County.

Beyond expanding educational opportunities, the Waretown Center renovation represents an investment in the future of the local community. By strengthening career and technical education and expanding partnerships with businesses and industry leaders, OCVTS is helping create a stronger connection between the classroom and the workforce. Students will have greater opportunities to develop industry-relevant skills and prepare for careers in fields that are essential to the continued growth and success of the region.

The expansion reflects OCVTS’s ongoing commitment to preparing students for success beyond the classroom. By providing high-quality technical education, hands-on training, and direct pathways into in-demand careers, OCVTS continues to build a pipeline of skilled professionals prepared to meet the workforce needs of tomorrow.
