Founded in 2024 and based in Manasquan, New Jersey, Olmeda Consulting provides a comprehensive range of geospatial services, with a focus on accuracy, quality, safety, and dependable project delivery. As a professional land surveyor, Marc brings extensive practical experience to complex projects, combining technical knowledge, innovative problem-solving, and a commitment to continuous learning. Through its internship partnership with OCVTS, Olmeda Consulting gives students the opportunity to connect their vocational education with real-world industry experience. The project has turned an aging facility into a clean, welcoming, and inspiring environment—one that mirrors the pride, professionalism, and excellence that define the district’s programs and students. Thanks to the generosity of the H. Hovnanian Foundation, and the steadfast support of the Ocean County Board of Commissioners and county funding, the Brick Campus now stands as a visible symbol of Ocean County’s ongoing investment in career and technical education. “Vocational education thrives when we invest not only in programs and instruction, but also in the environments where learning takes place. This project is a visible reminder that our students matter, their work matters, and their futures matter. At OCVTS, we also have support from our Ocean County Vocational Board of Education, The Ocean County Vocational Foundation and the many industry partners that believe in our mission,” — Karen L. Homiek, Superintendent of OCVTS The Brick Campus renovation project encompassed comprehensive exterior and interior improvements designed to modernize the facility and enhance both functionality and appearance. Exterior upgrades include new metal panel siding on the main facade and front entrance, energy-efficient windows and doors, and enhanced landscaping. The redesign also features a new paver courtyard with seating, lighting, hardscape elements, and new flagpoles. A newly constructed canopy and sidewalks now lead to the main entrance, while the remainder of the building has been repainted to match the refreshed front facade. New signage, including a digital reader board, adds a modern and professional touch to the campus. Interior renovations focused on improving safety and ambiance, introducing a new security vestibule, a separate exterior entrance to the dining room, and an ADA-compliant unisex restroom. The dining room was reimagined with upgraded finishes, including coffered ceilings, LED lighting, and refreshed paint—creating a warm, comfortable space for students, staff, and restaurant-goers. The newly updated dining space plays a vital role in the school’s Culinary Arts program, serving as both a classroom and a fully functional restaurant. In this space, students gain hands-on experience in all aspects of the culinary industry—from food preparation to professional service—by operating “A Touch of Class,” the school’s on-site dining room. It’s a setting where classroom learning meets real-world experience, allowing students to showcase their skills and creativity to the community. The project has turned an aging facility into a clean, welcoming, and inspiring environment—one that mirrors the pride, professionalism, and excellence that define the district’s programs and students. Thanks to the generosity of the H. Hovnanian Foundation, and the steadfast support of the Ocean County Board of Commissioners and county funding, the Brick Campus now stands as a visible symbol of Ocean County’s ongoing investment in career and technical education. “Vocational education thrives when we invest not only in programs and instruction, but also in the environments where learning takes place. This project is a visible reminder that our students matter, their work matters, and their futures matter. At OCVTS, we also have support from our Ocean County Vocational Board of Education, The Ocean County Vocational Foundation and the many industry partners that believe in our mission,” — Karen L. Homiek, Superintendent of OCVTS The Brick Campus renovation project encompassed comprehensive exterior and interior improvements designed to modernize the facility and enhance both functionality and appearance. Exterior upgrades include new metal panel siding on the main facade and front entrance, energy-efficient windows and doors, and enhanced landscaping. The redesign also features a new paver courtyard with seating, lighting, hardscape elements, and new flagpoles. A newly constructed canopy and sidewalks now lead to the main entrance, while the remainder of the building has been repainted to match the refreshed front facade. New signage, including a digital reader board, adds a modern and professional touch to the campus. Interior renovations focused on improving safety and ambiance, introducing a new security vestibule, a separate exterior entrance to the dining room, and an ADA-compliant unisex restroom. The dining room was reimagined with upgraded finishes, including coffered ceilings, LED lighting, and refreshed paint—creating a warm, comfortable space for students, staff, and restaurant-goers. The newly updated dining space plays a vital role in the school’s Culinary Arts program, serving as both a classroom and a fully functional restaurant. In this space, students gain hands-on experience in all aspects of the culinary industry—from food preparation to professional service—by operating “A Touch of Class,” the school’s on-site dining room. It’s a setting where classroom learning meets real-world experience, allowing students to showcase their skills and creativity to the community. Our district is extremely proud of their hard work and dedication. They pushed themselves out of their comfort zones, put themselves out there, and made new friends from across state and the nation. The students were professional, energetic, and engaged throughout the entire event, truly making the most of this wonderful opportunity provided to them. “It was such a pleasure to travel with them and see them grow in many ways. We look forward to another successful year with FCCLA. The students are already planning next years projects,” said master adviser Carey Gliddon. The week’s events concluded with the Awards Ceremony, where many of the nation’s top finishers received scholarships, tools, or other prizes related to their career fields in additional to their medals and national recognition. The medals and national recognition awarded are as followed: Abby Coffman, Repurpose and Redesign event, silver medal; Alma Torres, Fashion Construction event, top ten finalists in the nation, gold medal; Karina Urbina Taveras, Fashion Design event, silver medal. Karina was also one of twenty students out of over forty selected by the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising (FIDM) to participate in the annual fashion show. Additionally, Ocean County Vocational Technical School's Fashion Design and Merchandising Instructor Carey Gliddon received national recognition from the FCCLA. Carey has been recognized as a 2022 Master Adviser Award recipient.  Award recipients are recognized for advising an affiliated chapter for a minimum of three years, promoting the organization, operating an integrated chapter with a balanced program of work, facilitating youth-centered activities, and keeping abreast of new happenings within the organization. Nationwide there are over 6,000-chapter advisers. This year during the Recognition Session of the 2022 National Leadership Conference, Carrey Gliddon was one of 89 advisers nationwide to be recognized! The Family, Career and Community Leaders of America commends Carey Gliddon for her dedication and leadership in FCCLA and her role in helping students grow by motivating, guiding, sharing, and supporting them is essential to our organization. More than 40 female students from two counties studying construction trades gathered to connect with esteemed female industry leaders breaking down traditional barriers at a networking event. PROGRAM AREA \ COURSE OF STUDY NOV, 13 2023 Breaking Barriers: OCVTS and Partners Empower Female Construction Trades Students through Inspiring Networking Event with Professional Women Industry Leaders Breaking Barriers: OCVTS and Partners Empower Female Construction Trades Students through Inspiring Networking Event with Professional Women Industry Leaders Nicholas Spiech and Jenna Rosenfeld, OCVTS NOV, 13 2023 BRICK, NJ: In a groundbreaking initiative aimed at empowering young women in the construction industry, the Ocean County Vocational Technical School district (OCVTS) joined forces with IBEW Local 400, Professional Women in Construction, and Monmouth County Vocational School District to host an exceptional networking event. On Thursday, October 26, 2023, more than 40 female students from two counties enrolled in construction-related programs gathered to connect with esteemed female industry leaders, breaking down traditional barriers and fostering a sense of empowerment and camaraderie. The event kicked off with powerful narratives shared by prominent female industry professionals. Karla McCoy, a retired 45-year member of Local 9 Plumbers and Pipefitters, graced the occasion, traveling all the way from Florida to attend. Her inspiring story as a trailblazer resonated deeply with the attendees. Other notable speakers included Anna Krizin, Engineering Manager at Torcon, Angelica Laudati, an OCVTS alumna and recipient of the Professional Women in Construction Scholarship, and Karen McFadden, Local 11 Organizer. Their experiences served as a testament to the endless possibilities within the construction industry. The networking segment of the event provided a unique opportunity for students to engage with professionals from various fields within the construction industry. Tables were set up for project managers, apprentices, business agents, engineers, architects, business owners, utility companies, and professional organizations. Industry experts generously shared their insights on career choices, personal achievements, and continuous growth in their roles. The students were equipped with valuable contact information for these professionals, enabling them to nurture mentorship relationships and explore diverse career paths. On Thursday, October 26, 2023, more than 40 female students from two counties enrolled in construction-related programs gathered to connect with esteemed female industry leaders, breaking down traditional barriers and fostering a sense of empowerment and camaraderie. The event kicked off with powerful narratives shared by prominent female industry professionals. Karla McCoy, a retired 45-year member of Local 9 Plumbers and Pipefitters, graced the occasion, traveling all the way from Florida to attend. Her inspiring story as a trailblazer resonated deeply with the attendees. Other notable speakers included Anna Krizin, Engineering Manager at Torcon, Angelica Laudati, an OCVTS alumna and recipient of the Professional Women in Construction Scholarship, and Karen McFadden, Local 11 Organizer. Their experiences served as a testament to the endless possibilities within the construction industry. The networking segment of the event provided a unique opportunity for students to engage with professionals from various fields within the construction industry. Tables were set up for project managers, apprentices, business agents, engineers, architects, business owners, utility companies, and professional organizations.
